"Real Talk" Summer Youth Program

  • Southside Contemporary Art Gallery 1309 Hull Street Richmond, VA, 23224 United States (map)

“Real Talk” will be a 10-week free youth program for male participants aged: 12-19 that reside in Richmond, VA. We will focus on real conversations about real experiences in order to produce real solutions. We will provide a safe, culturally informed, and holistic space for youth to discuss ongoing violence that they experience in their community, while providing them with functional and relatable skills to respond to these stressors.

We have built a youth program focused on holistic wellness, emotional intelligence, decision making, discussions on firearms, entrepreneurship, conflict management, community engagement, and more. We will be directly addressing youth violence intervention and prevention through this holistic framework.

We will also be visiting several black-male-owned businesses in the historic Blackwell district of Richmond to include River City Kung Fu, Expensive Pain Tattoo, Pig and Brew, Southside Contemporary Art Gallery, Island Yoga Fitness, Barber Law Firm, RVA Cuts (barbershop), and more. Our focus is to create a thread of poignant and positive representation within the community, but also provide exposure to varying entrepreneur opportunities, employment, and community safe spaces.
