BKs Loaded Kitchen: Bryan Rhodes

Tell us a little about your business.

The name of my business is BK'S LOADED KITCHEN. BK'S LOADED KITCHEN was created in 2018 and born out of a passion for providing good food and connecting with people.

What is your connection to Richmond?
I have lived in Richmond for over 10 years. Upon graduating from Virginia State University in 2008, I moved to Richmond for work and to attend graduate School at VCU. Additionally, I have several members of my family that have resided in Richmond for over 40 years.

What led to the start of your initiative?
A combination of things led to the start of BK'S LOADED KITCHEN. The first was a love for grilling/cooking and sharing it with friends. Secondly, I wanted to set an example for my children and others and show them that you can accomplish your goals if you are persistent and willing to be committed to your goals. Third, I wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of not only starting a business, but capable of making it a recognizable brand and sustainable. Lastly, I started BK'S LOADED KITCHEN because I wanted to provide opportunities to others.

What does BLK RVA mean to you?
BLK RVA means that there is an intentional network designed for Black creatives and entrepreneurs to be themselves and to allow their natural creativity flow without feeling the need to conform. Additionally, BLK RVA means that we've progressed to the point that we are no longer are dependent upon other groups to give us a seat at the table or to highlight us because we are capable of doing so for ourselves.

What’s something about your business that most don’t know, but should?
Something about my business that most people do not know is that one of the pillars of the business is philanthropy. During each quarter of the year, we select an underserved population or group to donate free meals or make a monetary donation to further their cause.
